- The importance of teams being committed to the same outcome

Ignoring the Problem | with Adrian Koehler & Dan Tocchini
Sunday Jan 03, 2021
Sunday Jan 03, 2021
You will learn about:
- The conversations we know we need to have (but continue to avoid)
- Why you can’t always just hire the problem away
- Why calling it a “problem” is probably making things worse
- Our tendency to villainize people who aren’t doing what we want
- Becoming aware of our default orientation in relationships
- How to identify the signs that you’re unwittingly ignoring a problem
Show Notes:
We come across so many leaders who are aware that they have problems or breakdowns within their organization, and they think it’ll just go away or fix itself if they ignore it. We tell ourselves it’s not a big issue, we try to convince ourselves that it’s not really a problem worth our time, but we’re just making excuses because having the difficult conversation makes us uncomfortable.
But what actually happens when you ignore a known problem? It becomes bigger and more pervasive, until it’s so big that it simply can't be ignored anymore — and, at that point, it’s a much more difficult problem to solve.

360° Feedback | with Adrian Koehler & Dan Tocchini
Sunday Dec 27, 2020
Sunday Dec 27, 2020
You will learn about:
- What is a 360?
- Why 360s often don’t work...
- ...and why they work really well if you know why you’re doing it
- The problem with anonymous feedback
- Slowing down to go faster
- Is it an opportunity or a threat?
- Creating a culture that wants feedback
- How you can start implementing 360s in your organization
Show Notes:
One of our listeners recently asked us how to set up and execute a 360° evaluation, and we’ve mentioned the 360 tool in the past but we’ve never gotten into how they can be used most effectively.
If you’re not familiar, a 360° evaluation is a mechanism for giving feedback within an organization. But, in contrast to a typical performance evaluation, the feedback is solicited from all levels and perspectives within the organization, not just from an employee’s supervisors. This can be a transformative and powerful tool for empowering your people, but be warned — if a 360 is not done correctly, it can do more bad than good to your organization and culture.

Bringing Work Frustration Home | with Adrian Koehler & Dan Tocchini
Sunday Dec 20, 2020
Sunday Dec 20, 2020
You will learn about:
- How we rationalize taking work home with us
- Not bringing your frustrations home when you’re working from home
- Advice from an entrepreneur who has been married for over 40 years
- The conversations that you need to have with your partner to establish non-negotiables
- Relationship advice that you SHOULD NOT take
- Why natural problem solvers struggle with issues at home
- When marriage therapy doesn’t work (and when it does)
- Resisting the temptation to vilify
- The fear of missing out
- Transforming your home from a burden to a refuge
Show Notes:
We’ve talked a lot about frustration in the workplace, but we haven’t addressed what happens when we bring that frustration home — or how we can avoid doing that in the first place. And let’s get one thing clear: you WILL get frustrated if you are a founder or an executive. It’s a matter of when, not if.
But why did you start a business in the first place? Most of the people we work with say they want the freedom to spend more time with the people who are most important to them, or they want to create a legacy that those people will remember fondly, so we can’t let our business life erode at our family life — that completely defeats the purpose of submitting yourself to the road less traveled in the first place.
